Leadership Series | Part 3 | Lily Wu, Mayor of Wichita

Lily Wu is the 103rd Mayor of Wichita, elected on November 7, 2023 and sworn in on January 8, 2024, marking several historic firsts for the city.

She is the first Asian American mayor in both Wichita and the state of Kansas, and the first woman elected to a full term in Kansas’s largest city. Born in Guatemala in 1984 to Chinese‑immigrant parents, Lily’s family moved to Wichita in 1993 when she was eight years old, and today she speaks Cantonese, Spanish and English.

After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Wichita State University and earning a master’s in journalism from the University of Hong Kong, she spent 12 years as an award‑winning local television anchor and reporter. During her campaign, she emphasized public safety, economic growth, transparency in government, and community engagement—priorities she continues to champion as mayor.

Fluent in storytelling and civic leadership, Mayor Wu brings a rare blend of cultural perspective, media savvy, and dedication to building an inclusive future for all Wichitans.
